💡 Did you know?

Curious people are rated by peers as more socially engaging.

— Dr. Todd Kashdan, professor of psychology at George Mason University, in his book Curious? (2009)

🧭 Curiosity & connection

Your brain learns better when it's curious.

States of curiosity boost dopamine in the hippocampus — and you end up remembering not just what made you curious, but everything else around it.

🔬 Gruber, Gelman & Ranganath · UC Davis · Neuron, 2014
⏱️ Micro-learning works

Short focused sessions beat long ones.

Spaced micro-sessions can roughly double long-term retention compared to a single long study block — same content, same total time.

🔬 Cepeda et al. · Psychological Science · 2008
💡 Quizzes lock memory in

Self-testing beats re-reading. By a lot.

Students who self-tested on material remembered ~50% more a week later than students who studied the same material by re-reading or concept-mapping.

🔬 Karpicke & Blunt · Science · 2011

Audio + quizzes + a streak that pulls you back tomorrow. Every part of BrainList is built on a paper you can actually look up.

How it works

Four things that make the learning actually stick.

🎧
Show up with stories

Listen on the go

Original 10–15 min audio lessons that play in your pocket. Background, lock-screen, Bluetooth — all the obvious things, done right.

🧠
Remember it tomorrow

Quiz that nudges, not tests

Five quick questions after every episode. Not a grade — a memory cue. The thing that turns "I heard that once" into "let me tell you about it."

🎉
Make Friday loud

Live contests with your people

Spin up a private room, share a PIN, play live with family or friends — or face a stranger online in 1v1. The trivia is worth knowing.

🔥
Show up tomorrow

Leagues that pull you back

Daily scores. Weekly leagues that promote and demote. The streak loop you already know — pointed at things actually worth knowing.

🎉 Contests

Friday game night, but the trivia is worth knowing.

The Thanksgiving table. The road trip. The classroom. The group chat that needed a reason to meet up.

With people you know

Private rooms. Share a PIN. Get loud.

Pick a series or whole category, set the timer, share the PIN. Everyone joins from their own phone. Live scores, live reveals, no waiting rooms. Up to 50 players on Family Plus.

  • → Road-trip mode: 30-question marathon, hour-long timer
  • → Dinner mode: 5 quick questions, 15s each
  • → Classroom mode: assign a series, see every score
With the world

Online 1v1. Random series. Five minutes.

Match with another signed-in player in real time. A random series keeps it fair. Win and your league rank moves. The fastest way to feel like you're getting smarter.

  • → Live head-to-head, shared questions, shared timer
  • → Random topic — bring your range
  • → Smarter matchmaking landing soon
🔥 Leagues & ranks

Why people who use BrainList in week one still use it in month six.

Because finishing top of your league this Sunday means starting one above next Monday — and slacking off means starting one below.

01

Show up, rack up

Every quiz, every contest, every match earns points. The streak is the system.

02

Watch your rank rise

Progress is visible, not vibes. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and up — your effort cashes in.

03

Promote or demote, weekly

Top of your league? You move up. Slack off? You drop. Simple. Competitive. Slightly addictive.

📚 The catalog

Eight categories. Eight reasons people lean in.

Why it doesn't sound like AI slop

Researched. Cited. Built to be heard, not skimmed.

🔍

Web-grounded research

Every episode begins with a research pass that prefers .gov, .edu, encyclopedias, and peer-reviewed sources before a single word is written.

📑

Citations on every episode

References are listed on the episode page. If a fact is in your headphones, it has a paper trail.

🎙️

Written for the ear

Story-driven scripts, vivid framing, numbers spoken in words — not a Wikipedia dump read by a robot. (Even though, yes, a model is reading.)

Editor-reviewed before publish

Every draft passes through human QA in our Studio before it lands in your library. AI-produced, human-vouched.

Who it's for

Curious people with fifteen spare minutes.

🚆

The commuter

Wants to step off the train smarter than they got on. Tired of the same six podcasts.

👨‍👩‍👧

The parent

Wants something the whole family plays together. Without screens *at* each other all evening.

📖

The lifelong learner

Reads non-fiction on holiday. Owns a Kindle. Wants structure, not a feed.

🎓

The teacher

Wants a live classroom quiz in 30 seconds, tied to real lesson content — not generic internet trivia.

FAQ

The honest answers before you sign up.

Is this just AI-generated slop?

Episodes are AI-produced and human-edited. Every script starts with a web-grounded research pass that prefers .gov, .edu, encyclopedias, and peer-reviewed sources. Citations appear on every episode page. If a model can't find the source, the line doesn't ship.

Is it really free? What happens after beta?

Yes — fully free during open beta, no card required. Pricing kicks in later this year (we'll give you plenty of warning). Anyone who signs up during beta gets 6 months of Family Plus on the house when that happens, then keeps founders' pricing for life. Beta users will never pay sticker price. That's the deal.

How is this different from other audio learning apps?

A lot of platforms in this space summarize books that other people wrote. We don't. Every BrainList episode is original audio, written for the ear, organized into a tidy Category → Series → Episode catalog you can actually navigate. And most learning apps stop at "you listened" — we add quizzes, live contests, and weekly leagues that turn one session into a habit.

Do I need both web and mobile?

No. Pick one. The web app at app.brainlist.io works on any device. The native iOS and Android apps add background audio, lock-screen controls, and offline-friendly playback. Progress syncs everywhere.

How long are the episodes?

10–15 minutes, with chapter markers so you can skim or replay specific bits. Most people fit one in on a commute, a walk, or while doing dishes.

Can I play contests with my family even if some of them don't have accounts?

Yes. Anyone can join a private PIN room as a guest from their own phone — no account needed. Family Plus pushes that up to 50 players in one room, which covers most classrooms and family reunions.

What if my topic isn't in the catalog?

Request it. The community votes on requests, and the most-wanted ones go into our production queue. Power users have shaped the catalog from week one.

How do Weekly BrainLists work?

Tell BrainList when you listen — your commute, your gym block, your dog walk, your wind-down. Every Monday a fresh playlist lands, sized to that window and tuned to what you've been into. No more scrolling for what to play. The time is already on your calendar — we just fill it well.

Learn something real on the way to work.
Then quiz your cousin on it at dinner.

Free to start. Ten minutes a day. Thirty days from now, you'll be the person they lean in for.
